Swedish LARPers by InfectedNeon Swedish LARPers by InfectedNeon
:icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz:

I'm the one in pink, at the bottom left of the picture. This photograph was taken by my friend after the LARP "Sjunde Draken" which had a medieval fantasy setting in Sweden 2008. This was a group I went with and we played real evil soldiers!

If you're wondering - the houses are there all year round, as the village is one of many made by LARPers. And the thing I'm sitting beside is a cannon that we use with gunpowder, so it gives a great big BANG!, but without the cannonball. ;)

We're actually two different groups but we were fighting on the same side. :) It was a loooong time ago since Swedish soldiers were in Prague, but I was there only a couple of years ago. Loved the city! :D

If LARPing was like this where I live, I would be doing it. But the best around here is SCA, no one puts that kind of effort into LARP...>.< And even then, the historical accuracy with SCA is a pain.

Historical accuracy is at most LARPs in Sweden a must, but many have to be strongly influenced by the medieval/Tudor times. I've heard so many say this, I'm thinking of becoming a LARP expert in USA and help you guys with making accurate LARPs. :P (There's so much historical info on the internet so making clothes is quite easy... :))

So LARPs in Sweden are more like the SCA here? The SCA is super strict about historical accuracy and documentation if you are presenting your work for judging. Which can be frustrating when you want to add personal touches. Like, just because I can't find a picture for it, doesn't mean it didn't exist.

In that case SCA is mostly like reenactment here. LARPs aren't super strict (depending on which ones you go to) and there are the traditional fantasy LARPs with elves, demons and orcs - which naturally aren't historically correct, more Tolkien correct. ;)

Personal touches are very important to me, I love making embroidery, jewellery and clothes that are historically inspired more that accurate.

Sounds about right.

I'm a fashion design major so I'm right there with you on personal touches and adaptations.

I totally agree. Though - now I handsew my clothes for the extra SUPER-DUPER feeling! ;)
